Revenge of the Tipping Point: Overstories, Superspreaders and the Rise of Social Engineering (Paperback)
Malcolm Gladwell
Book 2 In The Tipping Point Series

'If the world can be moved by just the slightest push, then the person who knows where and when to push has real power. So who are those people? What are their intentions? What techniques are they using?' Through a series of riveting stories, Gladwell traces the rise of a new and troubling form of social engineering. He takes us to the streets of Los Angeles to meet the world's most successful bank robbers, rediscovers a forgotten television show from the 1970s that changed the world, visits the site of a historic experiment on a tiny cul-de-sac in northern California, and offers an alternate history of two of the biggest epidemics of our day: COVID and the opioid crisis.

Revenge of the Tipping Point is Gladwell's most personal book yet. With his characteristic mix of storytelling and social science, he offers a guide to making sense of the contagions of the modern world. It's time to revisit social epidemics, and it's time we took their tipping points seriously.

Media Reviews

'A wonderful page-turner about a fascinating idea that should affect the way every thinking person thinks about the world around him' Michael Lewis

'Hip and hopeful, THE TIPPING POINT is like the idea it describes: concise, elegant but packed with social power.

A book for anyone who cares about how society works and how we can make it better' George Stephanopoulos

What We Think

For anyone new to Tipping Point, it's basically a book about how ‘social epidemics' take off. Using interesting examples to illustrate his point.

Detractors of Gladwell's writing tend to be annoyed at how much he focuses on story and examples, and is a bit slow at proving his point. Saying that his writing is very based in academic literature, so it isn't just an opinion piece.

It's worth pointing out that the stories are very American centric, in case you find that kind of thing annoying.
