Politics is usually somewhere between boring and so frustrating you want to rip your own face off. But the existence of the political thriller shows that it can be exciting. Although usually that involves more than a bit of peril. Often on a massive scale. So maybe we should keep real life boring and live vicariously through political thriller books.

We like to promote a broad range of books within a genre, but when we were putting this together we had to admit that the Americans do really well in this arena. It would be unkind of us to suggest that's because the wild scenarios you get in these political thrillers are just that much closer to the reality of American politics these days. So we won't.
