Case Histories (Paperback)
Kate Atkinson
Book 1 In The Jackson Brodie Series

Cambridge is sweltering, during an unusually hot summer.

To Jackson Brodie, former police inspector turned private investigator, the world consists of one accounting sheet - Lost on the left, Found on the right - and the two never seem to balance. Media Reviews

'An astonishingly complex and moving literary detective story that made me sob but also snort with laughter. It's the sort of novel you have to start rereading the minute you've finished it' Guardian

What We Think

We think that Case Histories splits opinion a bit. It's the first book in an excellent long running series, so it is worth a read. However, some readers find issue with the detective in this crime fiction being a bit of a secondary figure to the story - although obviously he is a feature since he's the private investigator in a crime novel. It was well received and reviewed at the time and it was made into a three part TV series by the BBC, so clearly it did well. But maybe be a little cautious if what you are looking for is a standard British based bit of crime fiction.
