Collection: Fantasy Historical Fiction

We love history. Loads of it is fascinating, but for a lot of authors it just isn't fascinating enough. As the quote goes "the past is a foreign country "(The Go-Between, L.P. Hartley, 1953). But how much more foreign does it feel if you throw in some magic or dragons?

To be fair, historical fantasy fiction isn't a new phenomenon. The legend of King Arthur and his mate Merlin was first written 300 odd years after they were supposed to have lived. So that's historical fiction as much as if someone now was writing a story about the 1700s. And assuming you don't believe that a sword distributing woman lived in a lake, or that wizards are real, then it's very much a fantasy novel. So the sub genre has some pedigree.
