Collection: British History

British history sort of starts with the Romans turning up in around 55BC. At least that's true if you take a places history as starting when things begin to be written down. People have been around here longer than that. There is a 900,000 year old footprint of a Homo antecessor (a precursor to modern humans), and if you want something a bit more Homo sapien, we have found a 40,000 year old jaw over in Devon. So no if you out prehistory, you have a lot to catch up on.

What we are saying is that history in Britain is long, so there is a lot to cover. Which is why we have collected up some excellent British history books on everything from the Celts, to the Tudors, to the British Empire, to the World Wars to the relatively recent madness of the 1980s.
