Collection: Archaeology

Archaeology books cover a wider range of topics than you might expect. Typically the focus of archaeologists tends to be on periods where people weren't writing much, if anything down. That might be pre-Roman Britain, or pre-Columbian Mesoamerica from around the 14th century. It makes sense, since that's the sort of people and eras that the things dug up can be the most useful for, since sources are lacking. But they do widen the net a fair bit, for example with plenty of archaeological work done on Medieval Britain that can teach us a lot on how normal people lived and died, since they also didn’t write too much down themselves.

All in all, archaeology is a fascinating sub-category of history books that read a bit differently. If nothing else, the inclusion of a bit more science than you would normally get in straight-up history books gives it that little something else.
